MacBook screen replacement: we replace the LCD, not the whole lid

When a MacBook screen cracks, most repairers swap the entire lid assembly. At iPhix we remove only the damaged LCD panel and fit a new one into your original lid — so the backlight, FaceTime camera, ambient light sensor, lid-angle sensor and aluminium housing are all the ones your MacBook came with.

Done in-store at Eastwood and Macquarie Centre (North Ryde), Sydney. Free diagnosis, most panels fitted the same day.

What stays original on your MacBook

Five parts that a full-lid replacement throws away and an LCD-only replacement keeps.

  • Aluminium lid housing

No mismatched colour or panel gaps — the lid is the one that left the factory with your MacBook.

  • Backlight

The LED backlight behind the panel is untouched, so brightness and uniformity are as Apple built them.

  • FaceTime camera

Your original camera stays in place; it's not swapped for an unknown one bundled with a replacement lid.

  • Ambient light sensor

The sensor that drives auto-brightness and True Tone is kept, and we check both before you collect.

  • Lid-angle sensor

Sleep on close and wake on open keep working because the sensor isn't replaced.

How an LCD-only MacBook screen repair is done

  1. 1

    Free diagnosis

We check the panel, backlight, camera, cables and hinges so you know exactly what's damaged before any work starts.

  2. 2

    Remove the damaged LCD

The cracked panel is separated from the lid without disturbing the backlight, camera or sensors underneath.

  3. 3

    Fit the new LCD panel

A new panel is bonded into your original housing and connected to the original display cable.

  4. 4

    Test before you collect

Brightness, uniformity, colour, True Tone, the camera and sleep/wake on the lid are all checked.

MacBook screen replacement FAQs

Do you replace the whole MacBook lid or just the screen?
Just the LCD panel. Many shops replace the complete lid assembly because it's quicker; we remove the cracked panel and fit a new one into your original lid, so the backlight, camera, ambient light sensor, lid-angle sensor and aluminium housing all stay original.
Will True Tone and auto-brightness still work after the repair?
The ambient light sensor that drives them is your original one and is not touched. We check True Tone and auto-brightness as part of the final test before you collect the MacBook.
Will the camera be as good as before?
Yes — it's the same camera. Nothing about the camera, its cable or its position in the lid changes when only the LCD panel is replaced.
Which MacBook models can have an LCD-only replacement?
MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, Intel and Apple silicon. The one condition is that the lid itself is in good shape: if the housing is bent, the hinges are damaged or the display cable is torn, we'll show you and quote the right repair before starting.
How long does a MacBook LCD replacement take?
Usually the same day when the panel is in stock at our Eastwood or Macquarie Centre store. Call or message us with your model so we can check the part before you come in.
Is it cheaper than replacing the full display assembly?
Yes — a panel is one part, a full lid assembly is the most expensive display part Apple sells. We quote every MacBook individually after a free diagnosis; call us with your model number for a price.
